1 October 2007 Wellington Vs Auckland We took a team up to Auckland on the 22nd of September to fight on the VUW & ETK joint promotion - Wellington Vs Auckland. There were 8 fights to contest this team event and VUW had 6 fighters in team Wellington. First up was Jinna who had a hard fight against a more experienced opponent and lost a close decision on points. Then it was Tomohiro who gave away weight and a fair bit of height as well, at the start Tomo was on fire avoiding his opponents bombing shots while countering with his own. Then he dropped his guard for a second, got caught and couldn’t make the count - his best fight yet and a sign of what is to come. Mel went ballistic in her fight throwing powerful combinations and giving her opponent an 8 count in the second round on her way to a convincing points win. Jared was next and did the same to his more experienced opponent - Jared has started to show some of the promise that he has. Aaron was up next against the son of K1 Heavyweight super star Jay Hepi. Aaron didn’t care about the lineage and went in bombing his opponent giving him some 8 counts along the way to a big win. Josh from Kapiti had a loss and Bede from OCC in the Hutt had been given a draw. As we went into the final bout the score was 3 wins each and one draw. The decider was between Lea and Lisa from ETK. Lea stepped up to the plate and carved out a hard fought win on points. Wellington won 4 wins to 3 (with 1 draw) and got the team title.
