Testimonials — Hayley Landy

Hayley Landy – Lab Technician – NZ Champion

Initially I started Muay Thai because I wanted to be like Peekay from the ‘Power of One’, but there were no boxing clubs which suited my timetable. So Muay Thai was really my second choice. But now, like Peekay, I am a Welterweight Champion.

I started training with VUW in May 2005 and after a slow start, I am now fully sold into this new way of life.

I came to the club a normal to overweight, unfit girl who ate and drunk like there was no tomorrow. Through training I have now learnt a healthier lifestyle and am much smaller and healthier.

The main thing about the club which has kept me coming back time and time again,  is the sense of community about it. I love the family atmosphere and the welcoming feeling. There is so much support from everyone – from the experienced fighters to the not so experienced – which encourages me to come back and keep trying.

Although fighting is not for everyone, it is a motivating factor for me. I love the competition and how everything comes down to you and her. . . mentally as well as physically you must be stronger in order to take her out. I have learnt so much about myself as a person in each and everyone of my fights, so will continue to train and fight until I stop learning or until my body can not keep up.

There are so many people at VUW who are enthusiastic about the sport that they are sure to draw you in should you choose to come along and train with us.
