‘Hyper’ Anthea Morrison

2x NZ Muay Thai Champion, NZ Female Kickboxer of the Year (2005)

I have been training at VUW Kickboxing since 2002.  One of the most enjoyable factors about training at VUW is the atmosphere of the club.  The support and encouragement of not only Mark and Jonny but every member of the club makes it a great place to train (where the pain you put yourself through becomes bearable!).

Everyone is willing to put time and effort into your training and will help you in whatever way possible, whether it’s by throwing endless front kicks at you so that you can learn to see them coming, or by simply giving you encouragement or a bit of laugh when you’re tired and sore.

Training at VUW Kickboxing is not only a great place to meet people and make friends while learning the techniques of Muay Thai, but it is also a fantastic way of increasing both your physical and mental strength and gives you the opportunity to achieve things that you never thought possible.  When I first started I never even thought I would even get into the ring once, yet I’ve managed to do it 15 times so far (and I think I’ve still got a few more in me yet!).

Mark and Jonny are great trainers, willing to go the extra mile for you to get the most out of training.  Both put in extra time into watching DVDs of my opponent’s previous fights with the aim of finding their weaknesses and then working with me to come up with tactics to overcome these. Not only does Mark have an incredible knowledge and understanding of Muay Thai, he also is extremely helpful in providing advice about the wider facets of training, including treatment of injuries, ways to do strength/weight work and increasing your anaerobic fitness through sprint sessions etc.
